What is Counseling
What is Counseling?

Counseling is a process in which people work to explore personal concerns and work to identify options and develop strategies to work towards increasing self-awareness.

A counselor, or therapist, is a professional who works to empower people to accomplish positive mental health.  Counselors provide a confidential, non-judgmental, and supportive environment for their clients.  Counselors help people make changes in their way of thinking, feeling, and behaving by allowing them to tell their stories, set reasonable goals, and develop strategies to attain those goals.

How long does therapy take?

The length of treatment is unique to each individual.  Most clients meet once a week for a 45 minute session.  The overall length of treatment will depend on the treatment goals we have identified and the amount of progress we can make on those goals.  Many clients will average about 12-15 sessions throughout their treatment.

Are you performing in-person counseling?

Due to COVID-19, I am utilizing a telehealth platform to conduct sessions at this time.  I utilize the Simple Practice platform, which is HIPPA compliant and protects your health and privacy.

If in-person sessions are required, we can discuss our options for treatment.

telehealth
What is telehealth counseling?

Telehealth is defined as "the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to support long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health and administration."

Basically, when we use telehealth, it means we communicate with each other using technology.  Rather than having "in-person" sessions, where we are in the same physical room together, we will be communicating over the computer or other technologies.

I utilize a platform that is called "Simple Practice" to conduct my sessions.  It allows us to see each other on the computer and speak to each other as if we were in the same physical location.
